Chitwan: Yagyamurti Bhandari, the Chief of Statistics Office in Chitwan, has been arrested on charges of raping a female office assistant over a period of three years. The arrest was made following a complaint filed by the survivor's brother.

The Chitwan District Police Office, under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Karki, initiated an investigation into the case after obtaining approval from the District Court to detain Bhandari.

The survivor, who is currently receiving treatment in the ICU of Bharatpur Hospital, was referred to the hospital due to excessive bleeding after undergoing an abortion procedure at a clinic. Her health condition deteriorated critically after the abortion, and the case came to public attention when her family did not arrive at the hospital following the clinic's doctors transferring her to the hospital.

Yagyamurti Bhandari, 44, is a government employee at the officer level and hails from Sunwal Municipality-12 in Nawalparasi Paschim.
